Released on Decca Records in 2010, Tried & True was Clay’s final release before an extended hiatus. The album is a nostalgic journey through a golden age of American music — the 1950s and 60s. This album marked a departure from Clay’s contemporary pop roots, showcasing his exceptional vocal range and interpretive abilities in a collection of classic standards.

Featuring timeless hits like “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “What Kind of Fool Am I?,” and “Mack the Knife,” the album received widespread critical acclaim for its impeccable arrangements and Clay’s soulful delivery. Critics praised his ability to imbue these familiar songs with fresh emotion and authenticity.

To complement the album, PBS aired a special featuring Clay performing these classic tunes with a live orchestra. The televised event further showcased his artistry and resonated with audiences, solidifying his status as a versatile and beloved performer.

Following Clay’s successful run on NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice, the album was re-released in 2012 under the new title Steadfast, including one previously unreleased track “Bring Back My Love”
